A couple of area runners had big days to open the season at the 21-team Stewartville cross country invite Thursday.

Peter Torkelson finished in sixth place for the GMLOS boys, Alec Ille took seventh for the BP boys, who took fifth as a team, and Rory Bickler took eighth for the Pacelli girls.

Pacelli’s three-time state qualifier Kayla Christopherson also ran in the race, but she left with a foot injury.
