The public can now see all 21 displays on the modern immigrant experience in one place.

The Green Card Voices displays that have been in the community were moved to the Austin Public Library on Friday. The community is invited to come and view all life-size posters through Sept. 16 to learn the stories of the incredible people that are featured.

Green Card Voices shares stories about our nation’s 40 million immigrants and puts a human face to the current immigration debate in an attempt to introduce immigrants to their neighbors.

It focuses not only on capturing individual stories, but also on demonstrating the incredible breadth of the immigrant population.

The idea to bring the program to Austin sparked when Austin Adult learning took adult English language learner students to the Festival of Nations in May. A teacher wanted to bring the program to Austin because immigrants here are often hesitant to share their own stories

Green Card Voices is a nonprofit based in the Twin Cities aiming to spread information and prevent stereotypes about immigrants, especially in Minnesota, by collecting and sharing their stories.

Each of the Green Card Voices posters comes with a QR code leading to a website that features a short video on the individual.

Utilizing web-based video storytelling, we’re traveling the country and listening to those with the courage to share their journey, documenting each story in an authentic and unbiased way. The chronicles of those whose stories we capture are both awe-inspiring and thought provoking, portraying the diversity of the immigrant experience in the United States.

The posters have been in a variety of locations for the past couple of weeks, and they will preview Welcome Week by displaying them all together at the Austin Public Library.
