Ronald E. DeVriendt, 81, passed away on Sept. 22, 2016.
He was born to Edward and Mary (VanHyfte) on Feb. 18, 1935, near Corning, Minnesota. He graduated from Austin High School (‘52) and the Austin Vocational School (‘53). A 14-year employee of Honeywell as a Class A Tool and Die Maker. He served his country with the 101st Airborne Division. In 1960, he married Jeanette Petersen and made a home in Fridley. In 1967, Ron and Merlin Beseman started Top Tool company. Twenty years later he sold the business and entered retirement with winters in San Diego.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jeanette in 1970; parents; siblings: Vincent and Dorothy; and brother-in-law Chuck (Berg). Ron Is survived by his children Suzanna (Lance) Denzer, Laura (John) Zanmiller, David (Mary Welch), and Bradley (Audrey); grandchildren Jeanette (Rey) Caban, Elizabeth, Margaret, Mitchell, Andrea, Justin, Joseph, and Jesse; and great-granddaughter Fern. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Emily DeVriendt and Angie Larson, brothers-in-law Larry (Harriet) Petersen, David Petersen, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at Washburn-McReavey Columbia Heights Chapel, 41st & Central Ave. NE and one hour prior to Mass at church. Funeral Mass 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 at Church of St. William, 6120 Fifth St NE, Fridley, where Ron was a proud charter member of the parish.
