Richard Glenn Gallaher, 85, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at Field Crest Care Center, Hayfield, Minnesota.
He was born Oct. 26, 1930, in Lansing, Minnesota, the son of William and Leone (Davis) Gallaher. He attended school in Lansing and graduated from Austin High School in 1949. On Aug. 20, 1950, Richard was united in marriage to Mary Ann Swanson at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell. The couple raised three children. Richard served with United States Navy as a torpedo man from 1952 to 1956 with the rank of Seaman First Class. After his discharge, Richard was employed by Hormel Foods first as a buyer and later as a foreman in the rendering freezers, retiring in 1986. He loved to hunt and fish, spending over sixty years in the Northland around the Leech Lake area. He was a member of the Brownsdale Fire Department for over ten years, a member of American Legion and VFW. He was an active member of Crane Chapel where he ushered and held several offices. Richard also served on the Hormel Credit Union Committee.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Gallaher of Brownsdale; three children, Cheré (Steven) Rinehart of Utah, Grant (Mary) Gallaher of Rochester and Paul (Kelly) Gallaher of Aurora, Colorado; six grandchildren, John (Renee) Rinehart, James (Kristin) Rinehart, Amber Gallaher, Molly Gallaher, Cody Gallaher and Kirsten Gallaher; four great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends, including cousins Donna Wicherski and Donald Gallaher. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Leone Gallaher; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lavonne Gallaher; a granddaughter Ashley and a daughter-in-law Sheila.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at Crane Community Chapel with Pastor Dale Christiansen officiating. Interment with Military Honors by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216 at Greenwood Cemetery near Brownsdale, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7 at Crane Chapel, and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Crane Chapel or Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
