Impact Martial Arts and Fitness  certainly made an impact recently when they recorded 13 state championships, but they made even more of an impact when they returned from the Diamond Nationals with five championships as well as a number of top three finishes.

Jerry McCarthy, 68, was first in sparring in his division where he was one of the oldest competitors.

“There you have a man who’s 68 years young who goes up there in the 40 and up division,” said coach Troy Williams. “He was in five fights where against everyone he was their senior.”

McCarthy also finished third in form.

Katlynne Fisher took two firsts home in both form and sparring while Robert Andrews took a first in form and Gabe DenHartog won in sparring.

The number of first place finishers matches team Impact’s first place finishers from last year.

“We were shooting for six, one more than what we had, but to do what we did …” Williams said.

Williams certainly couldn’t be happier though.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the team and how they performed on such a big stage,” Williams said. “It’s a little overwhelming at the same time.”
