A rain-soaked ending; Owatonna haults Packers’ season in Section semifinals

OWATONNA — The Austin football team had its season come to an end on a 58-0 loss to the Huskies in a Section 1AAAAA semifinal game Saturday.
Owatonna (7-2 overall) seized a 23-0 lead in the first quarter and it led 44-0 at the half. Austin (4-6 overall) struggled to move the ball as it battled with heavy rains and a tough Owatonna defense.
Austin head coach Brett Vesel said his team battled hard by winning four straight game before Saturday and he credited the senior class.
“They’re a great bunch of guys. We’re going to miss them,” Vesel said. “They worked hard for four years and did some positive things. They’ve got to be proud of what they did, because they really turned it around from last year.”
