A trio of thefts and robberies kept Austin police officers busy on Monday.

According to Police Chief Brian Krueger, an 18-year-old male and a 14-year-old male took a total of $61 from a 13-year-old boy.

The report stated the mother of the boy contacted authorities about 5 p.m. to tell them her son had been robbed.

According to the boy’s statement, the pair initially stopped him to get $15 for gas and cigarettes and he went with the pair willingly. When the older boy realized the 13-year-old had more money, he allegedly took the rest from him.

The pair was later apprehended. The older teenager could face a charge of simple robbery, a felony; and a charge of theft, a misdemeanor. He was taken to the Mower County Jail.

The 14-year-old, who could also face a charge of simple robbery, was released to the custody of his family. Krueger said he would have been placed in detention, but there was no room available.

Police were also called to an apartment building on the 300 block of 27th Street Southwest just after midnight on Monday.

A female said she was upstairs in her apartment when she heard someone come through the front door and start rifling through the kitchen cabinets. After she made a noise, the suspect fled the apartment.

Her roommate reported that tools, valued at $50, were taken. There are no suspects.

A 15-year-old Austin teen also reported at 7:41 p.m. Monday that a long board was taken from outside the Austin Public Library.

The board, which had been borrowed from a friend of the victim, was unattended and unsecured, according to Krueger.
