Construction of Austin’s new Hy-Vee store is humming along, with a spring 2017 completion anticipated.
According to Hy-Vee’s Senior Communications Director Tina Potthoff, almost all of the concrete is laid and site work on the mall is almost complete.
Completion will bring to a close a project that would change the landscape of Austin’s west side.
The store, located on 18th Avenue Northwest, is anticipated to be between 60,000 square feet to 90,000 square feet in size with the most up-to-date trends in food offerings.
Hy-Vee acquired the Oak Park Mall last November with help from the city of Austin, the Austin Port Authority and a $3.65 million grant from The Hormel Foundation.
Demolition work began at the site last spring, but at times construction slowed due to the above-normal amount of wet weather.
The arrival of precast walls late last summer allowed work to ramp up and the structure has since been enclosed.
