Franklin Albert Larweck, 97, of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin.
He was born Oct. 3, 1919, in Ellsworth, Iowa, to Ben and Elizabeth Larweck. On June 2, 1938, he married the love of his life, Josephine Birk, in Blue Earth, Minnesota. They were married for 73 wonderful years and had two children, Frank Jr. and Judy.
Franklin served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 during World War II with the Third Infantry Division in which he received many medals for his heroism. These included the Silver Star, Purple Heart, and Bronze Star.
He worked at Hormel Foods for 39 years.
His greatest joy was spending time with family, especially his great grandson, Zack. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, bowling, and word search puzzles.
Survivors include his daughter, Judy (Ron) Miller, Austin, Minnesota; grandchildren, Rhonda (Mark) Radloff, Austin, Minnesota, Michele Langan (Rob Johannsen), Austin, Minnesota, David Larweck, Great Falls, Montana; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Josephine; son, Franklin Jr., granddaughter, Nancy Dahl; one brother and one sister.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor Larry LaDassor officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post No. 91 and VFW Post No. 1216.
