MINNEAPOLIS — Prosecutors have charged a 56-year-old man with assaulting a man who was speaking Somali aboard a Metro Transit bus.
Cornell White was charged Tuesday with fourth-degree assault motivated by racial bias and possessing methamphetamine.
Police responded to a silent alarm of a fight aboard a bus in south Minneapolis on Saturday. The victim told police he had been speaking Somali with a friend on the bus when White started yelling at him to “speak English,” and then punched the victim several times in the face and body.
Police say the unprovoked attack was captured by a video camera on the bus.
The Star Tribune reports the complaint says officers confiscated about 2.5 grams of meth as White was being booked into the Hennepin County Jail.
