The Lyle-Paceli girls basketball team showed off some of its team depth as it locked down on defense and beat Hope Lutheran 70-8 in Pacelli Gym Friday.

The Athletics (3-0 overall, 3-0 SEC) held the Patriots (1-3 overall, 0-2 SEC) to just two points in the first half and every player on LP’s roster scored in the win.

Kristi Fett had 17 points, 18 rebounds and two blocks for LP and Brooke Walter had five points, six assists and five steals. Fett scored most of her points on post up opportunities as LP slowed down the pace in the second half.

“We can play fast if we have to and we can play a half court game if we have to,” LP head coach Justin Morris said. “I think everybody thinks about us as just Brooke and Kristi and they kind of underestimate our other players. Our JV group, which included Lucy [Nelson], Olivia [Christianson] and Abby [Bollingberg], lost one game in three years and a lot of those kids are used to winning.”

LP held a 43-2 lead early in the second half and the Patriots didn’t get their second field goal of the game until there was 13:28 left in the game. LP forced 30 turnovers in the win.

Bethany Strouf, a senior who had 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists, said the Athletics are working on sharing the wealth this season.

“We have to get everybody involved and this was a step towards that,” Strouf said. “Our younger girls are stepping up a lot and I think we’re going to do really well this year.”
