Round two is on the way.

The National Weather Services issued a winter storm warning from noon Friday through 6 p.m. Saturday as a storm is expected to bring 5 to 8 inches of snow to Mower County with blustery winds.

As of Thursday, projections showed Mower County in a thin band where 4 to 8 inches was projected with the highest amounts of 8 to 10 inches just to the north, while about 2 to 4 is expected just to the south.

The heaviest snow is expected to fall on Friday afternoon and evening.

“Travel will be impacted by the storm,” the warning reads. “The Friday evening commute will be impacted for most if not all of the area, along with any holiday shopping on Saturday. Motorists should plan ahead for winter driving conditions.”

With this system, the wind is expected to be a significant factor, as “considerable blowing and drifting” and the potential for reduced visibilities are likely on Saturday.

Winds of 14 to 22 mph are expected Saturday with 10 to 20 mph winds Saturday night with 28 mph gusts.

After a  brief warmup to highs of around 16 on Friday, dangerous cold will return Saturday night. A low of minus 22 is expected, as are bitter wind chills. The cold remains through Sunday when the high will only reach around minus 8 with a low of minus 11.

Temps on Monday should start to climb back across the zero line, with highs predicted at about 14 degrees. On Tuesday, normal temperatures for this time of year return, with the highs reaching into the mid-20s.
