Austin Catholic Schools announced Friday plans to change their school name and leadership structure.

The pre-school through 12th-grade school system will be renamed Pacelli Catholic Schools. The Austin Catholic Elementary school will now be Pacelli Catholic Elementary School; the middle school, Pacelli Catholic Middle School; and the high school will remain Pacelli Catholic High School.

The name honors Pope Pius Xll who was known as Cardinal Pacelli when he was elected pope in 1939.

The change reflects branding and marketing efforts, according to the schools.

The leadership structure of the schools will also shift to a president/principal model on July 1. Queen of Angels’ Father Dale Tupper has been named president and Mary Holtorf, principal.

Currently, the director, Holtorf, oversees the entire organization, including financial and day-to-day operations. Holtorf will continue overseeing day-to-day operations of the schools while Father Tupper will be responsible for the financial operations. Father Tupper will continue serving as pastor of Queen of Angels Church. Father Greg Parrott will become associate pastor there.

Father Tupper is a member of the United Catholic Schools Foundation board; he has decades of experience in Catholic education, having served as principal at Rochester Lourdes, Winona Cotter, and Mankato Loyola.
