GRAND MEADOW — The LeRoy-Ostrander boys basketball team couldn’t keep pace with No. 6 ranked Goodhue as it lost 58-36 in the Grand Meadow tournament Wednesday.
The Cardinals (0-6 overall) puled to within 24-13 early in the first half, but the Wildcats (9-0 overall) responded with a 26-4 run that saw them break the game open. LO committed 20 turnovers and it struggled to defend Goodhue’s outside shooting.
“It’s a process for us. We’re still not there,” LO head coach Trevor Carrier said. “We’re getting better and I thought we played better in the first half. Then they went on that big run.”
Goodhue took second in the Minnesota State Class A Boys Basketball Tournament last season and it has a strong group of players returning from that team. The Wildcats were able to control the pace against the Cardinals throughout the night.
“They executed. Defensively we’ve got to work harder,” Carrier said. “We worked hard for spurts, but we’ve got to work harder for longer. We have to have a defensive mind set and we have to work hard at all times.”
