ALBERT LEA — Fountain Centers in Albert Lea has temporarily suspended detox services due to staffing shortages, according to a spokeswoman with Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.
It is unclear when services will resume, but patients in need of medical attention are being transferred to other detox centers or the emergency department if needed.
The detox program was used for people to have a safe place to be while under the influence of alcohol or drugs or while being treated for withdrawal. Staff supervise patients for typically two to three days while they rid their system of alcohol or drugs and become physically stable.
During the detox process, counselors complete a chemical use assessment to recommend appropriate addiction treatment or discharge.
The suspension of detox services does not impact Fountain Centers’ residential services in Albert Lea or the outpatient services in seven southern Minnesota communities, according to the statement.
The residential program is for someone struggling with substance abuse who is seeking help to achieve sobriety in a safe and structured environment.
The Fountain Centers staff teaches patients about the disease process, skills in treating chemical use and any issues they may be experiencing.
Treatment plans are developed to assist in achieving and maintaining sobriety, and the typical length of stay in the residential program is approximately 28 days.
