Alumni Update: Brehmer has begun senior season at UW-La Crosse

SWIMMING AND DIVING
Austin grad Nick Brehmer has begun his senior season with the UW La Crosse swim team.
Brehmer swam in the Rochester Invite Dec. 4 where he swam the 50-freestyle in 23.22 seconds, the 100-freestyle in 48.97 seconds and the 200-freestyle with a season’s best and team best time of 1:46.50.
BASKETBALL
Austin grad Bret Lukes continues to play a solid role for Hamline University, which is having one of its best seasons in years.
Lukes had five points and two assists in a 68-53 win over Concordia-Moorhead Jan. 7.
Lukes, a junior, is averaging 6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game, while shooting 46 percent from the field for the Pipers, who are off to their best MIAC start in 26 years. Hamline’s overall record of 8-4 is its best start in six years.
Austin grads Zach Wessels and Tom Aase have been key figures for the University Sioux Falls, which has won four straight games, including a 69-62 win over cross-town rival Augustana Dec. 31.
Wessels had 21 points, three assists and nine rebounds in the win over Augustana and Aase had two points, six rebounds and two blocks in that win.
Wessels had nine points, three rebounds and three assists in a 58-55 win over Winona State Jan. 7 and Aase had four points and 10 rebounds in that win.
The Cougars are now 10-8 overall.
Austin grad Gach Gach had 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals for North Dakota State College of Science in a 122-103 win over United Tribes Tech. Jan. 9.
Gach is averaging 17.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1 steal per game, while shooting 41 percent on three-pointers for NDSCS (16-1 overall).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Southland grad Jana Schammel had 10 points, five rebounds and two steals for John Brown University in Arkansas in a 100-72 loss to Wayland Baptist of Texas Jan. 7.
JBU is 10-5 overall this season.
Pacelli grad Sarah Holtz had eight points and five rebounds for Luther College (8-5 overall) as it lost 80-56 to Nebraska Wesleyan Jan. 7.
Austin grad Jenna Svoboda had one point, nine rebounds and five assists for RCTC (7-6 overall) in an 80-50 win over Hibbing Jan. 7.
