Get ready for a wash of cancer-fighting pink

This week you will start to see pink flags as well as flags of many colors on Oakland Avenue representing all cancers.

•Jan 22: Adams Pink Out; Adams Legion from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

•Jan 27 – 29: Matchbox Children’s Theater “Cinderella,” at the Paramount Theatre.

•Jan 28: Hotdish feed and bean bag tournament, noon  at Hoot & Ole’s.

•Feb 3: Austin Big Band Pink Swing at Hormel Historic Home 6 to 8 p.m.

•Feb 3: Pledging for Pink Radiothon, KAUS.

•Feb 4: Snowmobile Speed Challenge, 10 a.m. East Side Lake. Register on site starting at 9:30 a.m.

•Feb 4: Plunging for Pink, 1:30 p.m. East Side Lake. Pre-register your team. Link is on the website.

•Feb 8: St. Marks Living, soup and bake sale, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

•Feb 9: Primrose Community Dinner, 4:30 p.m.

•Feb 10: Paint the Rink Pink, Bruins host Coulee at 7:05 p.m. Jersey auction following the game.

•Feb 11: Fishing for a Cure, noon, East Side Lake.

•Feb 12: Smashing Cancer Demolition Derby — Mower County Fairgrounds 1 p.m.

•Feb 18: Adams Pinko Bingo, Austin Eagles. 5:30 p.m. dinner, 7 p.m. bingo, 9 p.m. DJ.

•Feb 18: Rose Creek, activities all day.

Hockey

Austin Park and Recreation will host the Stickin Around Mite Tournament on March 11. Team registration of $150 is due on Feb. 24 at the Park and Recreation office.

The tournament will take place at Riverside Arena with four games guaranteed, three divisions of play, three, 10-minute periods, five-on-five hockey and a shoot out to end each game.

The Bruins will have home ice that evening and have reserved the Bear Den for participants and parents. The cost for adults is $15 which includes pizza and beverages however we must have 50 paid adults.Deadline is Feb. 24 as well.  For questions or if you need a registration form , contact Jake Solberg, Recreation Supervisor at 507-433-1881 or jakes@ci.austin.mn.us.

Pickleball

Those of you that like to play pickleball, we will have open gym again at Ellis Middle School on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. starting this Wednesday and going to March 8.

The cost is $2 per person per time. You can pay at the gym. For more information, you may contact Jake at Parks, Recreation and Forestry or jakes@ci.austin.mn.us.

Warming houses

Our warming houses at Galloway, Kaufman and Skinners Hill will be closed until further notice.

Packer Arena schedule

Public skate: 4:15 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan 28.  The cost is $4 to skate plus $1 if you need to rent skates. Make sure to like us on Facebook so you receive up to date information.

Riverside Arena schedule

•Adult Open Hockey: 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. Cost is $6 per person each event. Attendees must be 16; goalies are free.

Austin High School hockey home games: Boys JV and varsity vs. Rochester Mayo, Thursday at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Austin Bruins: 7:05 p.m.Friday and Saturday, versus Janesville. There will be a post-game skate on Saturday night for Boy Scout Night.

Dome

Austin High School will offer open dome times for moms and little ones from 9 to 11 a.m. on the following dates: Jan. 24; Feb. 7 and 21; March 7 and 21; April 4 and 18. The cost is $2 per child or $5 per family. This is great opportunity to get out and run off some cabin fever during the winter months.
