Tonic Sol Fa back in Austin

The Historic Paramount Theatre is proud to present Emmy Award-winning a capella trio Tonic Sol-Fa on Feb. 3.

Long-time Austin favorites, Tonic Sol Fa began at St. John’s University in Central Minnesota and includes lead vocalist Shaun Johnson, tenor and vocal percussionist, Greg Bannwarth, and bass, Jared Dove. The name is based on a system of naming the notes of the scale, usually do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, developed to teach singing.

Together the group reached national prominence with appearances on NBC’s Today Show and in Newsweek magazine. Along the way, they shared the stage with a number of recognizable performers including Jay Leno, Jeff Foxworthy, Lonestar, Montgomery Gentry, Shawn Colvin, Weird Al Yankovic, Bryan White, Neal McCoy, Nestor Torres, Bobcat Goldthwait and Jerry Springer and were recently part of Garrison Keillor’s 30th Anniversary celebration of “A Prairie Home Companion.”

The guys have performed the Star Spangled Banner for national Republican and Democratic events, former presidents, the Minnesota Twins, the Chicago Bears, the New York Mets, the National Fourth of July Celebration at Mount Rushmore, the Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Lynx and the Saint Paul Saints to name a few.

If you have not had the pleasure to experience Tonic Sol Fa, their show is an energetic blend of Bobby McFerrin sound effects, ‘Pitch Perfect’ a cappella music and stand-up comedy.

The New York Times described Tonic Sol-fa’s sound as “A vocal kaleidoscope…unique to the human voice.”  It’s a formula that works as the group released 10 CDs and have sold over two million albums.

Austin is lucky to host Tonic Sol Fa as the group performs approximately 100 concerts each year across 48 states to a combined audience of 250,000 and over.
