Need a date?

Well, has the Friends of the Austin Public Library got a deal for you.

“Blind Date with a Book” fundraiser will mix a bit of fun with a good read Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 10-12 at the Coffee House and Austin Public Library. Only the library will sell the books on Sunday.

The book (or two small books) will be wrapped in a plain, brown wrapper and on the wrapper will be the author’s name and genre — but other than that, it’s a “blind date.”

“I thought the books would go well with both chocolate and roses,” joked Friends board member Jenelle Cummings. Each package is $5.

The idea, she added, came from fellow Friend’s member, Morgan Carlson, who saw the idea online. The local group quickly adopted the idea, seeing the fun of it and the funds it could generate. Up to 100 books — both new and used — will be sold.

As important as the sales is the fun the Friends group is having selecting and wrapping the books, said Cummings.

On Friday, Feb. 10, the fundraiser will be held from 10 a.m. to close at the library and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Coffee House.

On Saturday, Feb. 11, the books will be sold from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Coffee House, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the library. And, on Sunday, Feb. 12, the books will be sold from 1 to 5 p.m. at the library.

Funds raised, said Friends member Sue Grove, will be given to library programming.

The fundraiser is a preview to the larger book sale conducted on May 5 and 6 at the library.
