In the pink: Cabeen fulfills promise

For the fifth straight year, Woodson Kindergarten Center Principal Jessica Cabeen kept her end of a hair-raising — or rather, hair-painting — bargain.
As in, agreeing to paint her hair for a day, following her students’ successful completion of a Paint the Town Pink fundraiser that raised over $1,700 for cancer research.
That would be $1,705.72 to be exact. That is a lot of pennies.
And that was pretty great, given that the kids’ goal this year was $1,000 for their “Pennies for Pink” fundraiser.
“They did just an amazing job,” said Cabeen.
So amazing that Cabeen sat right down in an alcove of the school on Friday to get her hair painted pink, in celebration of the kids’ reaching — or rather, smashing! — their goal.
Armed with pink spray and outfitted with garbage bag aprons, kindergarten teachers Chris Kasak and Julie Wanous did the honors of spraying Cabeen’s hair a rather startling shade of pink.
Cabeen was an old hand at the event, but no less excited to show her kids the end result. Behind windowed doors (so they would avoid any inhalation of aerosol), the kids watched in amazement as the pink stuff was sprayed.
“I like it!” piped up one.
“The kids get so excited; they look forward to this,” said Kasak with a chuckle.
Lisa Prehn, a paraprofessional in Jason Denzer’s classroom, also agreed to have her hair painted pink.
“I did it last year and they liked it,” she said with a grin.
