LYLE — After playing their toughest regular season schedule in program history, the Lyle-Pacelli girls basketball team faced one final test as it closed out its regular season with a 58-36 win over Grand Meadow in Lyle Friday night.

The Superlarks (18-8 overall, 12-3 SEC) came to play in the first half and they took a 30-27 lead when Isabelle Olson, Jordyn Glynn and Kaitlyn Hilton all hit three-pointers in a one-minute stretch. LP (20-6 overall, 15-0 SEC) had a big answer as Brooke Walter, who had 13 points and four steals, hit a three-pointer to beat the halftime buzzer and LP used a 24-0 run over a 14-minute stretch in the second half to put the game away.

“I think we’ve had a hard schedule and we’ve been in tough games,” Walter said. “We know what to do when the time comes and in the second half we picked up some good momentum headed into the playoffs. We just needed to value possession and get stops on defense. Kristi [Fett] and I try to play off each other and when she draws triple teams, we have to knock down shots.”

Fett had 16 points and 11 rebounds for LP and Olivia Christianson had 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

The Superlarks opened up a 9-2 lead to open the game, but LP bounced back to take a 27-21 lead before GM made its run.

“They came out and they were certainly the aggressor,” LP head coach Justin Morris said. “They were more active, they were intense and we certainly got hit in the mouth in the first half. We talked at halftime about how we’ve played the hardest schedule in Class A and the reason for that is we’ve tested our resolve and we’ve come out as a better basketball team.re GM closed the half strong.“

The Superlarks have a young roster headed into the tournament and GM head coach Ryan Queensland said it provides a good challenge to play against LP.

“It’s always great to play them. They’re a very good team and they’re a very good measuring stick,” Queensland said. “It gives you a sense of the speed and toughness that’s going to be there when we get into the tournament. Justin’s got a heck of a team and you’ve got to respect them. It’s fun to play good competition, because that only makes you better.”

Bethany Strouf had 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and seven steals for LP.
