Enjoy Wednesday’s highs in the low 60s while you can; winter is about to make a comeback.
A winter storm watch is in effect from 6 p.m. Thursday to 12 a.m. Saturday ahead of a storm system that could bring 4 to 8 inches of snow to the area, according to The National Weather Service in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Current projections call for the system to start as rain Thursday evening before transitioning to a rain-snow mix Thursday night into Friday morning. Snow is expected more Friday night, and periods of freezing drizzle and light icing are possible late Thursday into Friday morning.
The weather service is confident the storm will produce significant amounts of snow, but it’s still not certain where it will fall as small shifts in the tracking could impact amounts and peak locations.
Current tracks call for more snow to the north with 6 to 12 inches projected in the Twin Cities, while more rain and minimal accumulation is expected south into Iowa.
