UPDATE: Austin Public Schools closed Friday

Austin Public Schools are closed Friday as Austin is falling closer to the bullseye of a looming winter storm.
The weather models for Friday’s impending storm have finally stopped bouncing around — but that’s about the only good news about our weather tomorrow.
The National Weather Service in La Crosse, Wisconsin, has upped Austin’s snow total. People should expext anywhere between 10 and 16 inches of snow on Friday, that will be whipped up by high winds. A winter storm warning was posted earlier today and was upgraded to a blizzard warning this afternoon.
Snow should begin overnight and increase after midnight.
The high temperature Friday will be 27 degrees and the low around 12 degrees.
“And, as temperatures get colder, that snow will be drier” and as winds pick up, visibility and drifting will increase, said Tom Stangland of the NWS.
“This is going to be a long duration snowfall,” he said, adding that traveling on area roads Friday could be dangerous.
