Dorothy Mary Killoren, 101, of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

Dorothy was born July 12, 1915, to William and Hattie (Hawkins) Hines, on the family farm in Pratt, Minnesota.  She attended country school in Havana Township and graduated from Owatonna High School in Owatonna, Minnesota, in 1933.

She married Edward Thomas Killoren on June 3, 1936, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. They made Austin their home and were married for 63 years before Ed preceded her in death on May 20, 2000.

Dorothy was a charter member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church.  She lived her faith and volunteered her time and talents both in the church and the Catholic Schools.  Dorothy also served her community as an election judge for many years.

Dorothy’s greatest joy was to be surrounded by family and friends. She had a great sense of humor and zest for life. She loved to dance, travel, garden, read, play games, cook, and camp. Dorothy had a compassion for children and the elderly and was a caregiver to many. She created a home filled with love and laughter and always seemed to be able to lift the spirits of those around her. Dorothy was a guiding light of strength and love to all who knew her. Her spirit will soar forever!

Survivors include her children, Patricia (David) Berven, Karee (Gene) Bednar, John (Margaret) Killoren and William Killoren; sister, Donna Kates; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed; brother, Lawrence “Bud” Hines; and sister, Patricia (Hines) Kuhn.

Dorothy and her family would like to thank the staff at Sacred Heart Care Center for their abundant kindness, care and compassion. They made a positive difference in the life of Dorothy and her family with the quality of care given and their tender hearts.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to Sacred Heart Care Center.
