Northwestern Singers to present annual show

Austin has enjoyed our own real-life “Glee” since the 1950s: the Northwestern Singers.
A group of about 40 talented men and women, Northwestern Singers is a chorale and show choir that has been entertaining the community and raising money for local youth music programs for over 60 years.
Northwestern Singers will present their winter show, “The Wonderful World of Disney” at the Historic Paramount Theatre on Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5 with special guest MacPhail Children’s Choir. Complete with a band, costumes and choreography, songs from “Frozen,” “Mary Poppins,” and “Aladdin,” will be featured along with many other favorites from both old and new Disney movies.
If you were able to take in previous shows like “Back to the Future,” “Bach to Rock,” “The Sounds of Motown,” “Tribute to American Bandstand,” or “Hooked on Country,” you know the show will feature songs you know and love, a live back-up band and some fancy footwork.
Tickets are available online (http://www.etix.com/ticket/v/11298/historic-paramount-theatre) or at the ArtWorks Center hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The Historic Paramount Theatre will also be the site for a race and equity event called “Feeling History: African Americans’ Reach for Equality.” The presentation by CLIMB Theatre is deeply interactive and explores America’s history of racism and how it continues to shape the experience of Black Americans.
Attendees will sit on the stage with the presenters and participate in experiences that create understanding–intellectually and emotionally–of America’s legacy of institutional and individual racism. The event is free and open to the public and is appropriate for seventh grade to adult audiences. Seating is limited to 100 people so free tickets will be issued at the ArtWorks Center. Feeling History is funded by the Minnesota State Arts Board.
