Welcome back, Old Man Winter.

The area has seen temperatures top 60 degrees and thunderstorms in the slow climb toward spring, but we’re heading back into the grasp of winter — at least briefly.

A system could drop 6 to 8 inches of snow on Sunday afternoon through Monday, and the National Weather Service in La Crosse, Wisconsin, issued a winter storm watch  for 4 p.m. Sunday through 7 p.m. on Monday.

The heaviest snow rates are expected to occur from Sunday night into early Monday morning, so drivers should plan ahead for the Monday morning commute.

Confidence is high that this storm will produce significant amounts of snow. However, any shift in the storm track will have an impact on where the heaviest snow accumulations will occur.

Highs should hit 40 degree by Friday and near 50 over the weekend.
