Eileen P. Janning, 92, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017, surrounded by her family at Owatonna Homestead Hospice House.
Eileen Patricia was born on Oct. 21, 1924, in Summit Township, Steele County, Minnesota, to Edward M. and Rose (Hanzlichek) Ruzek. Eileen attended Steele County country school, and worked on her parent’s farm. On April 8, 1942, she was united in marriage to Elmer Janning at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Litomysl, Minnesota. They raised their family and farmed in Blooming Prairie Township, Steele County. She was a longtime active member of St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie. Eileen enjoyed gardening, plants and flowers, and sewing. She was a devoted quilter and donated many of her quilts to charitable events. Eileen loved to cook for her family and visitors to her home, and was famous for her “Buchte” (prune biscuits). Eileen and Elmer moved from the farm into Blooming Prairie in 1983.
She is survived by her children, Henry (Carole) Janning of Yutan, Nebraska, Diane (James) Mundt of Owatonna, Sandra (Fritz) Bachmeyer of Spokane, Washington, Denise (Lynn) Sibenaller of Owatonna, and Brian (Mary) Janning of Omaha, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Elmer on Dec. 29, 2002; grandson Jason Mundt; great-granddaughter Cera Janning; four brothers and three sisters.
Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie with Father Thomas Niehaus officiating. Eileen’s family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 17, at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home, and one hour prior to Mass at St. Columbanus on Saturday morning. Interment will be in the St. Columbanus Church Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Owatonna Homestead Hospice House in Eileen’s memory.
