Austin had a huge performance from one of its seniors, but none of its golfers were able to qualify for the state meet at the Section 1AAA meet in Hastings Monday.
Mark Thorson finished his high school career with a career-best round of 77 as he was below 40 on the front and back-nine.
“Mark was steady all day long from tee to green,” Austin head coach Chris Gogolewski said. “He stayed aggressive off the tee and had good touch on the greens.”
Austin senior Tim Shaffer finished his career with a round of 95, but he came along way this season for the Packers.
“Making it to day two of sections is very impressive being that this was his first full varsity golf season,” Gogolewski said. “Tim had some great rounds this year for us.”
Alex Thorson, a sophomore, shot close to his season average with an 81.
“I know Alex was disappointed after today, I know he’ll take this with him to next year’s rounds and only improve,” Gogolewski said.
Austin scores: Mark Thorson, 77; Alex Thorson, 81; Isaac Christianson, 83; Tim Shaffer, 95
