What has six legs, comes from Argentina and can be seen at the Paramount Theatre?
Fémina!
Fémina is an all-women trio presenting a fusion of folk, rap, and funk as part of the World Music Series on July 12.
Fémina formed in 2004 and consists of sisters Clara and Sofia Trucco and their childhood friend, Clara Miglioli. Clara Migliloli is lead vocalist, Clara Trucco plays the guitar and ronroco and Sofia Trucco is the percussionist.
Their hometown is San Martín de los Andes in Argentina, a city about the size of Austin. It is along the Chile/Argentina border, at the base of the Andes mountains. Skiing is popular during the winter. The climate is warm in the summer but cool nights sometimes produce a frost even in the summer.
Fémina’s music is presented in Spanish using a dramatized style emphasizing high energy and strong facial expressions which helps audiences bridge language gaps. Fémina’s mission is about promoting love and equality across culture, race, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation with a strong focus on uplifting women.
Fémina has released two albums, “TRASPASA” in 2014, which means “Leasehold” and “DESHICE DE MÍ” in 2011, which means “Got Rid of My.” The trio is touring the U.S. this summer and will play next in California, New York and New Jersey.
Catch Fémina for free at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, at the Paramount Theatre. A typical ticket to see the act is $25, but the Austin Area Commission for the Arts is able to present it free due to grant funding from Southeast Minnesota Arts Council and the City of Rochester Riverside Concerts.
The World Music Series continues with blues trio Delgres bringing tunes from Caribbean, New Orleans and the Delta on July 19 and Connla, five-piece Celtic band from Ireland on July 26.
