Support groups are organizations of people who share something in common, who meet together to discuss their experiences, share ideas, and provide emotional support for one another.
It can be helpful just getting to talk with other people who are in the same situation. A support group can help you cope better and feel less isolated as you make connections with others facing similar challenges.
At the senior center we are lucky to have several support groups that meet here. This week there will be a Grief Support Group Meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
This is a five week bereavement support group for those who have experienced a loss. This group began on July 11 and continues through Tuesday, Aug. 8. This education and support group will provide materials and discussions on a variety of topics to assist participants in their grieving process.
The group will meet weekly in the conference room at the Mower County Senior Center. The meetings will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a different presenter each week and will be followed by an informal lunch gathering for anyone interested. The group is open to the public and all who feel this might be beneficial to their healing and all who are supporting them are invited to attend.

On Wednesday, if you are dealing with macular degeneration or know someone that is, you are welcome to attend the Macular Degeneration Support Group at 9 a.m. The speaker this month is Dr. Gareth Hataye from Innovision in Austin.
You may not be old now, but if you’re lucky, one day you will be. We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the senior center. Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and sandwich for 50 cents.
Don’t forget Tuesday is hotdish day. We are having chicken alfredo hotdish for only $2.
