WASECA — An Austin man was taken to the hospital and a bridge south of Waseca needs repairs but can remain open after the man crashed a Mack dump truck into the bridge Tuesday night.
The truck’s dump box was up when the collision occurred at the Highway 14 overpass on Waseca County Road 4 at 8:20 p.m., according to a State Patrol report.
The driver, James Brian Meyer, 60, of Austin, was transferred to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waseca for treatment of non-life threatening injuries as a result of the incident.
Inspectors were called out to assess damage of the bridge following the crash, said Rebecca Arndt, Minnesota Department of Transportation’s public affairs coordinator.
“When it’s a bridge hit, we have folks inspecting it immediately for the safety of the public,” she said.
The damage wasn’t deemed significant, she said.
“It has some minor damage that we’re aware of right now and will be repaired,” she said. “But nothing that gives us concern for the traveling public.”
