The senior center has plenty to offer
Published 2:46 pm Saturday, July 29, 2017
Throughout the years I have been at the Mower County Senior Center we have always tried to plan something for everyone. It is fun seeing many of you every week and meeting new people all the time. We always strive to do our very best for you.
Some examples of our efforts that you might not see in the newspaper are; we have a free table outside the office where most Monday mornings we have bread donations from HyVee for everyone to share at the center and in the summer time we have produce donations.
If you have a garden of your own and you end up with too much this summer feel free to share it with the senior’s on the free table.
We have a lending library that anyone can come and take a book to read, take as long as you would like to read it then share it with a friend or bring it back. We also take your used books to share with others. We have a great pool room with two 10’ snooker tables in it to play pool or snooker. Also in the pool room we have a big screen TV where we have a World War II game connected.
Our advocates have equipment to lend out. If you are in need of a walker, toilet riser, cane, shower chair or other items see our advocate to sign one out.
We have a computer lab in the coffee shop. If you need to check your email or see how your stock is doing but don’t have internet or a computer we have it here for you. If you have your own device; laptop, tablet, iPad or smart phone and need a place you can go to use wireless internet. We have you covered there too. Just come in the office and get the password or ask us to help you get connected and you can use our wireless internet for free.
If you have a device and are having trouble using it we can help you with that too. You can always come in to the Facebook class and Christa will help you with a variety of things or you can make an appointment at the office for a one to one training for your device.
This is just small example of offerings to you. Besides the other things you can read about in the monthly newsletter we have here for you. We look forward to you coming down to the senior center. See you soon.
You may not be old now, but if you’re lucky, one day you will be. We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the senior center. Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and sandwich for 50 cents. Don’t forget Tuesday is hotdish day. We are having scalloped potatoes and ham for only $2.
