The Dodge County Diamondbacks, an amateur baseball team consisting mostly of players who are alumni of Hayfield and Kasson-Mantorville, clinched a trip to the Class C state tournament when they beat the No. 8 seeded Rochester Roadrunners 6-3 in Owatonna Sunday.
The No. 6 seeded Diamondbacks won with dramatics in the first round of the section tournament when Tyler Krekling came up with a two-run double in the top of the 10th inning to give Dodge County an 8-6 win over Waseca. Dodge County beat Stewartville 6-2 as Kasey Krekling pitched all nine innings on the mound and Brendan Knoll and Sam Hirsch each homered.
The Diamondbacks will play a seeding game Aug. 13 in Owatonna and the state tournament takes place in the last two weekends of August and Labor Day weekend in September in Green Isle, Hamburg and Norwood Young America.
