The annual mass registration for Austin Public Schools kept staff, parents and students busy on Wednesday and Thursday.
With an enrollment of close to 5,000 this year, there were throngs at the Austin High School gyms all day, each day.
“I am excited to see my friends,” said junior Madyson Palumbo, 15, a comment echoed by several students. She stood with her mother and another sibling while she waited for her younger brother to have his school photograph taken.
“And, all but two of my classes this year are at Riverland” through the post secondary options enrollment program, she said. PSOE allows students to take college-level courses in their junior and senior years.
She added she wasn’t sure what to expect, but “it should be interesting.”
Nearby, a smiling youngster said the best part of the day was “finding out who my teacher is” at Southgate Elementary School (She confided she was in third grade and that her teacher was MacKenzie Bentzin, and boy, was she happy).
“She’s really nice,” she said.
