Mower County Board to vote Tuesday on Local 9 contract; Tax-forfeited parcel repurchasing also on agenda

The Mower County Board will meet in special session at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, in the  Mower County Government Center.

The agenda includes a Correctional Services Department report as well as  local public health performance measures and a community health update

The board is slated to vote on changes to the Local 9 contract for  new three-year contract with Local 9.

The city of Austin is seeking to acquire two tax-forfeited properties to fix blight or develop affordable housing. According to the parcel numbers on the agenda, one of the properties is  a residence 202 4th St. SE with a total assessed value of $16,500. The other property within the same plat is not shown in the Mower County Assessor online listings.

The board will also hear request from the following people to repurchase tax-forfeited property parcels: Chester Klingfus, Robert Hebl, Edward P. Miller and the heirs of John Flink.

 Kevin Finley as K & L Housing will ask to purchase adjacent tax forfeited.

A detour and road closure of County Highway 111 (Main Street in Waltham) for an Aug. 19 street dance will be up for a vote.

The board will vote on the Mower County recycling contract with Freeborn County Coop Oil Co. to add additional pickup site to the contract for Brookside Campground.

A 9:30 a.m. public hearing will be about Mark and Megan Theobald’s application for tax abatement for construction of a single-family home in Frankford Township.

Also on the agenda is a variance for Brian Hanson to construct an agricultural building.
