ADAMS, Minn. – Highway 56 in Adams is scheduled to reopen on Aug. 19 as the roadway reconstruction is completed, but motorists will still encounter paving work between Interstate 90 and Taopi, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

In Adams, traffic has been detoured while the roadway was reconstructed and sanitary sewer, water, lighting and drainage utilities were replaced. Sidewalks, landscaping and ADA pedestrian ramps are also being upgraded.

The stretch of Hwy 56 in Adams from Fourth Street west to the west bridge was expected to open on Saturday.

The resurfacing work is expected to continue into October. The 16-mile resurfacing project along Hwy 56 in Mower County from Interstate 90 south to Taopi is replacing the aging pavement and improving safety along the corridor. Work includes grading, paving, storm sewer repair as well as guardrail installation along the route.

Motorists may encounter short traffic delays during paving operations and should be alert for flaggers stopping traffic, who will direct motorists to stop or follow pilot cars through the construction zone.

Mathy Construction is the prime contractor for the $5.2 million project.
