This week’s AACA column guest written by Gretchen Ramlo
Here we go.
It’s that time of the year at the ArtWorks Center when our Kids Open Studio starts up again on Saturdays. The Kids Open Studios start from 10:30 a.m. to noon every Saturday starting on Sept. 9.
Each Open Studio will have a different project in different mediums. The classes will include painting, paper crafts, watercolors, weaving mosaics, collages and much more. We also use a variety of teachers, so there is always something new and fun.
The cost of each class is only $5. The cost to the ArtWorks Center is $20 and includes the teacher and all supplies.
We are able to offer the classes at $5 because of the incredible generosity of Ruth Wunderlich. Ruth gifted the Austin Area Commission for the Arts $10,000 to underwrite the Kids Open Studio classes. Because of this generosity 494 kids attended the open studios in 2016. So far in 2017, 459 kids have participated in the classes.
Ruth passed away just a few weeks ago, but not before she gifted us another $2,500 for the kids classes. Amazing.
Here are just a few of the classes:
Sept. 16: Ice cream cone painting
Sept. 23: Paper mosaics
Oct. 14: Tin foil sea creatures
Oct. 21: Day of the Dead sugar skulls
Nov. 11: Tree weaving
Remember the classes start Sept. 9 and every Saturday after that. Check our website for updates on all classes and Kids Open Studio projects. Pre-registration is a good idea as the classes fill up fast. That can be done online at www.austinareaarts.org or call us at 1-507-434-0934.
