An Oakland man was allegedly intoxicated when he led officers on a car chase that reached speeds of more than 100 mph Monday morning in Freeborn County.
Jason Steven Allen, 35, was charged in Freeborn County District Court with felony first-degree driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration of at least 0.08 within two hours, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and gross misdemeanor driving after cancellation.
The chase began after a Freeborn County Sheriff’s deputy traveling south on Freeborn County Road 34 around midnight attempted to stop a speeding vehicle with a driver’s side headlight out. The vehicle turned west on 170th Street and struck a deer but continued to flee, turning onto different roads before going into a ditch on the south side of 190th Street. The driver fled on foot and was caught before entering a corn field.
Allen reportedly had a 0.10 blood alcohol content at 1:43 a.m. that morning.
District Court Judge Steven Schwab set unconditional bail at $100,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
First-degree DWI carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine.
