An Adams man is compiling donations to deliver to the flood-ravaged areas around Houston, Texas.

Matt Schmitz on a Facebook page alerted Mower County residents that he was going “to bring them supplies that are going to be needed in the cleanup and rebuilding process.”

He is looking for food items, water, cleaning supplies, toiletry items, baby food and diapers.

“They will need almost anything you can think of.”

He said he was still working on identifying drop-off points and staging areas.

He left with an initial load Wednesday morning to deliver supplies already gathered. He will return on Saturday.

Other ways to help

The Austin Salvation Army is also handling monetary donations that will go toward relief as a result of Hurricane Harvey. Donations may be dropped off at the Worship and Service Center, 409 First Ave. NE, during the hours of 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m.

Hy-Vee, Inc. announced Wednesday they will accept customers’ donations for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Hy-Vee will match all donations received now through Sept. 30, up to $100,000.

Funds will be provided to the American Red Cross to help with relief efforts, including supporting volunteer efforts, opening shelters and providing meals and other supplies.

“No matter where we are from, we all stand with the people of Texas impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey,” said Randy Edeker, chairman, president and CEO of Hy-Vee. “We look forward to working with customers to bolster relief efforts for this unprecedented and catastrophic event.”

 Hy-Vee customers will have the ability to donate $1 or $5 amounts at the cash register of any Hy-Vee store. Customers will be able to add the amount to their purchase, or donate separately if they are not purchasing groceries. Hy-Vee will match customer and partner donations up to $100,000. In addition, the company will partner with the American Red Cross to distribute the funds.

U.S. Bank customers can now make donations to the American Red Cross at all U.S. Bank ATMs to support the humanitarian organization’s disaster relief efforts for those impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

U.S. Bank ATMs will accept contributions through Sept. 30.All the funds will go directly to the Red Cross.
