Austin man pleads not guilty to receiving stolen property

A man who allegedly had a stolen assault rifle and drug paraphernalia in his home pleaded not guilty to charges on Thursday in Mower County District Court.

Harley Manwell Roberts, 27, of Austin pleaded not guilty to felony receiving stolen property, gross misdemeanor user of a controlled substance being in possession of a firearm, gross misdemeanor user of a controlled substance in possession of ammunition and petty misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police detectives assisted a special agent from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in executing a search warrant on May 22 at Roberts’ residence in the 500 block of 12th Street Northeast.

According to court records, police seized several marijuana pipes, various items of drug paraphernalia, .380 caliber ammunition, multiple electronic devices and four firearms: a Ruger SR556 assault rifle, an Astra A70 pistol, a Chiappa Firearms 1911-22 pistol and Jennings Firearms J-22 pistol. The serial number of the Ruger assault rifle allegedly matched that of one reported stolen out of Waseca County.

Roberts asked if the search warrant was for drugs or guns. Roberts told police the firearms belonged to his roommate, Aaron Duenes who denied they were his.

Roberts’ pre-trial is Jan. 19.
