Muryne Carrie Bonnes, age 98 of Austin, Minnesota died Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 at The Cedars of Austin.

Muryne was born July 22, 1919 in Swea City, Iowa to Elmer and Jennie (Opsahl) Fretty. She was baptized Aug. 31, 1919, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, confirmed on June 18, 1933, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, and attended school in Armstrong, Iowa. On Jan. 27, 1939, Muryne and John Bonnes Jr. were united in marriage in an outdoor wedding in Lansing, Minnesota. The couple raised one son. Muryne loved her role as homemaker, and especially loved cleaning. She and John owned and managed many rental apartment units, and rented rooms in their home to young working women. Muryne enjoyed camping and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Beautiful Savior. She and John helped build both of those churches, where Muryne was active as a Sunday school teacher, serving on the kitchen committee and the visiting committee. Muryne moved to the The Cedars in July of 2014.  Her family will miss her deeply.

Muryne is survived by her son John (Judy) Bonnes of Minneapolis, two grandsons, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Bonnes Jr., two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11  a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Austin, with Pastor Paul Welke officiating. Visitation will be held from 10  to 11  a.m., Thursday, Sept. 7 at the church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.
