Janice M. Gunderson, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at her home in Austin.
Janice Mildred Eggert was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Dodge County, Minnesota, the daughter of August and Alma (Lee) Eggert. She attended country school near her home in Dodge County, Minnesota. On July 3, 1948, she married Cecil Gunderson in Hayfield, Minnesota. They made their home in Austin where Janice was a homemaker and worked part-time as housekeeper for the Miller Motel and Marsden Janitor Service before her retirement. Janice and Cecil enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping. Janice loved to grow flowers and work in her garden. Cecil died on Oct. 20, 1999.
Survivors include her daughter, Connie (David) Hatle of Austin; son, Jerry (Barb) Gunderson of Brownsdale, Minnesota; grandsons, Jamie (Danielle) Tapp, Joseph (Mariah) Gunderson and Lee (Sarah) Gunderson; great-grandchildren, Makenna Tapp, Kami Tapp, Adelynn Gunderson, Grayden Gunderson, Braelyn Gunderson and Brantley Tapp; sister, Lois Johnson of Hayfield; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Alma Eggert; her husband, Cecil; two sisters, Margaret Exe and Norma Shellum; a brother, Ellsworth Eggert and a nephew Roger Shellum.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin, with Pastor Jeff Forbes officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Worlein Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.
