An Austin man faces charges after allegedly fleeing police on a motorcycle.
According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, an officer saw a 1998 Honda motorcycle missing a taillight and brake light at 10:55 p.m. on Sunday going east on Eighth Avenue Southeast near Marcusen Park.
The motorcycle ran a stop sign and turned onto Fourth Street Southeast. When the officer tried to stop the driver, the driver fled and ran another stop sign. The officer saw the motorcycle was on the ground near the corner of 13th Avenue and Fifth Street Southeast. The driver apparently fled the scene.
A K-9 was used to track the driver with negative results. A witness said they saw a male flee northeast.
The motorcycle did not have a license plate, but officers ran the VIN number and located the registered owner. When officers arrived at his home they saw he had road rash and his hands and feet were bandaged.
The man allegedly admitted to riding the motorcycle and panicking when the officer tried to stop him.
He was not taken into custody, but was served forfeiture papers for fleeing an officer on a motor vehicle.
The report has been forwarded to the County Attorney’s office. He is facing possible charges of felony fleeing a peace officer on a motorcycle, driving after revocation of his license, driving without a license plate, driving without a tail light and failure to stop at a stop sign.
