Northfield edges out Packer girls soccer team

The Austin girls soccer team played with one of the top teams in the Big Nine for much of the night, but a couple of lapses proved costly as Northfield topped the Packers 2-0 in Art Has Stadium Thursday.
It was the first loss at home for the Packers (3-4-1 overall, 3-3-1 Big Nine).

The Raiders (8-0-1 overall, 6-0-1 Big Nine) grabbed an early lead when Maddi Goldsworthy knocked in a shot in the eighth minute and Northfield pushed that lead to 2-0 when Grace Neuger scored off an Austin turnover with nine seconds left in the first half.
Austin head coach Jake Levisen liked the fight that his team showed.
“I’m pleased,” Levisen said. “When we lost focus Northfield capitalized and when we had focus we were right there with them. That shows the dedication and drive of our team.”
Myia Hoium had 14 saves in net for the Packers, who had five shots on goal.

Austin has eight games remaining this season and five of those games will be in Art Hass Stadium. The Packers will host Fairmont at 3 p.m. Saturday.
“Every game we’re trying to bring momentum,” Levisen said.
