Norman R. Turner, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at The Cedars of Austin.

Norman was born in Harmony, Minnesota, on Feb. 15, 1931, to Eva and Warden Turner. He married his high school sweetheart, Hilda, on Dec. 2, 1948. They had five children, Terry, Greg, Jane, Brad and Becky. Norm worked at Hormel for 41 years.

Norm was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting as well. In January 2013, seven of the Turner’s were inducted into Blooming Prairie Blossoms Forever Athletic Hall of Fame. Norm loved to garden and always had the best tomatoes around.

Norm is survived by his children, Terry Rutherford of Pasadena, California, Greg Turner of Austin, Jane (Tom) Cummings of Rochester, Minnesota, and Becky Ciani of Glenwood Springs Colorado; grandchildren, Blake Rutherford, Marin Turney, Jason, Jessie and Jenna Turner, Melissa Sorenson, Katie Cummings, Samantha, Jordan and Nick Ciani; great-grandchildren, Elsa Sorenson, Ajah Cummings, Norah Ciani, and Wynne Turney; and siblings, Larry Turner of Kasson, Minnesota, Denny Turner of Kasson, Dean Turner of Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey , Jim Turner of Kasson, Bob Turner of Northfield, Minnesota, and Joanne Sathre of Austin.

Norm was preceded in death by his son, Bradley; wife, Hilda; and siblings, Delores, Ike, Ramona, Laddie, and Yvonne.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Jim Steffes officiating. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home and also at a reception at the Hormel Historic Home following the service.
