MASON CITY— A wanted Austin man led Mason City police on a brief chase through that northern Iowa town Wednesday night.

Corey Lee Stigney, 36, is accused of eluding officers who attempted to stop him for a speeding violation around 10:35 p.m.

Stigney was driving a 2014 Chevy Cruze LT in town, police say, when he failed to stop, gained speed, then failed to obey a stop sign and stoplight before the officer lost sight of him.

“When another officer located Stigney and attempted to stop him, he failed to stop at a stop sign and gained speed again,” court documents say. “Stigney was in excess of 65 mph in a 35 mph zone.”

Stigney then failed to stop for another stop sign, court documents say.

Officers found the vehicle and arrested Stigney at 26th Street and South Adams Avenue.

He is also accused of providing false identification to officers, court documents say, having given officers the name of “Donald Stigney.”

After Stigney was arrested, officers found several cards and documents in his possession with the name of “Corey Stigney.”

“Corey then admitted that his name was Corey and not Donald,” court documents say.

He has been charged with seven misdemeanors in connection with the pursuit.

Stigney is wanted in Minnesota for felony drug sales. He is being held without bond in the Cerro Gordo County Jail, where he is awaiting extradition.
