Yaridia Viridiana Castillo, 26, of Austin was charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault on Tuesday in Mower County District Court.
According to the court report, Austin police officers responded to an assault call at 3:52 a.m. on Sunday in the 600 block of Ninth Avenue Southeast. A woman at the residence told police she had been assaulted by Castillo, who had left the residence. She said Castillo had dragged her around the residence, struck her and choked her.
Officers observed cuts in her face and injuries on her neck.
Castillo returned to the residence at 5:48 a.m. and was questioned by police. She said the victim was intoxicated and crying, so she told her to go to her room. When she tried to take the victim to her room, the victim “started getting violent.” Castillo said the victim punched her, pushed her and pulled her hair, so she slapped her twice. She then left the residence to avoid further confrontation.
Castillo had no visible injuries.
Castillo’s initial appearance is scheduled for Oct. 9.
