Vern Ardel Iverson, 89

Vern was born Nov. 30, 1927, in New Richland, Minnesota, to Ernest and Helen (Peterson) Iverson. He was the seventh of eight children. He attended school until the eighth grade and when he turned 16, he started working at Geo. A. Hormel.

At the age of 17, he married the love of his life, Betty Arens, on Dec. 23, 1944, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He worked at Hormel for 37 years, the last 15 years working on the same line with Betty in the Dry Sausage Department.

Vern’s love of the outdoors — hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family — was the highlight of his life. He was a true sportsman and passed on his skills to his sons and grandsons. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Vern is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 73 years, Betty Iverson, Austin; his sons, Stan (Debi) Iverson, Austin, and Larry (Kathy) Iverson, Austin; daughter-in-law, Marilynn “Pedie” Iverson (Rick Andersen), Austin; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Verdell Clark, Austin, and Ruth Olson, Austin; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Chester, Harvey and Gene; sisters, Doris and Dorothy; and his son, David Iverson in 2010.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. David Simerson officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the mortuary from 1-3 p.m. on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
