The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms (6-3) nearly dug themselves out of a pretty deep hole, losing to Rushford-Peterson Wednesday night 39-35 on the road.
“We did get in a hole fast,” coach Chad Gimbel said.
Down 20-7 at halftime, the Blossoms kept pushing and chipping away at the R-P score were able to engineer a last-second Hail Mary that failed to fall in Blossom hands.
With just under three seconds left in the game, quarterback Seth Peterson found Max Romeo for a touchdown that cut the lead to four. BP then recovered the onside kick with 1.3 seconds left setting up the long pass.
“We threw a Hail Mary and we got the tip, we just couldn’t get it to go the right way,” Gimbel said.
The Blossoms will get the No. 3 seed going into the playoffs and will probably host Southland in the section’s first game.
