Austin community children and their parents are invited to join us from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29, at Pacelli Elementary School, 511 Fourth  Ave. NW,  for our Haunted Hallways Celebration, hosted by the Pacelli Parents, Teachers and Community Association (PTCA).

This is a free event for the community. Kids (and parents) are invited to don their Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat at each classroom, vote for their favorite Halloween decor, and decorate some spooky treats to eat.

Amy and Tom Schafer and kids rock The Incredibles during the Haunted Hallway event in 2016 at Pacelli Elementary School.

The Pacelli PTCA raises funds and organizes student activities to support the teaching and learning for all PreK-12th grade students at Pacelli. They organize and run many events to promote Pacelli, provide safe activities for students and extend their learning through special events including the Back-to-School BBQ, Walkathon Carnival, Christmas Shoppe, Meals for Teachers during conferences, Readathon, Book Bingo, Author Visit, Track and Field Day, Post Prom Party, and the

Senior Luncheon. Most recently the Pacelli PTCA supported a group of high school students to travel to South Dakota State University to participate in a robotics seminar.

Little McKenzie McMahon shows her enthusiasm for the Haunted Hallway event last year.

Regardless of what your exact interests are, you can be certain your participation will be welcomed in your school’s parent-teacher organization whether your child attends a public or a private school. And PTCAs are not just for moms. Many dads play an active role as volunteers and take on leadership roles in the organization. Most schools have sign-up sheets located in the school lobby and send home information about organizational activities with the phone numbers of parent contacts.

Even if you don’t have much time, attending your school’s PTCA meetings or volunteering to help with a special event is an excellent way to stay on top of what’s happening at your child’s school and to connect with other parents and school leaders. If you’re not sure what groups are available at your child’s school, call the school secretary, who will tell you about your options and provide you with the necessary contact information.

We hope to see you on Sunday for a Spooktacular time!

Lisa and Zach Schara brought out laughs with their Haunted Hallway display at last year’s Pacelli Elementary School event.
